30.4.–30.5.2026. Using sea salt as a material and examining the Baltic Sea through an audiovisual lens, Saari's exhibition is a multi-sensory entity that combines photography, moving images and sound. The works have their origins in love and concern for the Baltic Sea, through time spent on its shores.
“I became interested in salt as a material and as a prerequisite for all life. Currently, the salinity of the already brackish Baltic Sea is diluting further. When I look towards the future, it is shadowed by concern, as the Baltic Sea ecosystem is unwell.”
The timelapse technique used in the video work of Sanni Saari's exhibition reveals the slow crystallization process of salt. The moments captured in the photographs in the archipelago are parallel to the photographs taken experimentally in the studio. The project has developed in artist residencies at Aboa Vetus Ars Nova in Turku (2025, 2026) and at the Eckerö Post and Customs House in Åland (2025).
