3.10.–25.10. The colourful and imaginative exhibition by ITE Artist of the Year takes visitors on an adventure into the mysterious world of Karbujo. Sarastamo is working in residence and can be met during the exhibition opening hours. There will also be work demonstrations, weekly magic tricks and a presentation Creativity and loneliness.
The colorful drawings in the exhibition depict Karbujo, an imaginary land located in jungle-like areas by the sea. There, Sampo Sarastar, an explorer, adventures to discover a hidden civilization and its philosophy of life and mechanical inventions. The exhibition also features sculptures, literary material, and photographs.

Markku Sarastamo (b. 1948, Hämeenlinna) is not only the 2025 ITE artist of the year named by The Association for Rural Culture and Education , but also a magician, inventor, yogi, judoka, Esperantist, fairy tale writer, storyteller, and performance artist who acts in various roles. One could say that Sarastamo is the embodiment of a self-made life, always guided by curiosity, a willingness to experiment, and imagination.

Tuesday, October 7, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. MAGIC TRICK OF THE WEEK and how to do it.
Sarastamo has been actively performing magic tricks since the 1970s and has also written a book called Korttitaituri (Card Master). In this workshop, Sarastamo will teach a few card tricks. Participants should bring a euro coin, a deck of cards, and an inquisitive mind. Duration approx. 45 min.

Come and see how silver jewelry is made! Sarastamo's presentation combines the skills and techniques learned from professionals over the years. In the demonstration, you will see how an idea is turned into jewelry—and get tips on how to make your own jewelry.
Friday, October 10, 2025, 1:00–2:00 p.m. World Mental Health Day lecture CREATIVITY AND LONELINESS. In collaboration with Mieli Länsirannikon mielenterveys ry . Creativity often springs from loneliness – but how far can and should one go alone? In this honest presentation, Markku Sarastamo opens up about his own artistic journey. He examines, among other things, the image presented by the media and reflects on his own goals and inner growth toward becoming an artist. The performance leads the audience to reflect on the conflicting pressures of creative work, the spotlight of publicity, and the vulnerability of the private mind. What happens when your own voice is drowned out by interpretations?
