9000 Collective
The new work by the 9000 collective, “9000,” combines augmented reality, art photography, contemporary dance, video, compositions, and sound design into a unique hybrid installation. The work examines humans as part of the continuum of evolution — a changing world on both a physical and mental level — and considers how we are connected to everything living and conscious around us, how we understand humanity and technology.
The presentation utilizes speaker technology, projections and photographs printed on various surfaces. Maria Nurmela's dance is captured in Vesa Loikas' photographs and videos in various images and their variations. The visual art is surrounded by over an hour long, continuously evolving soundscape by Jaakko Vastapuu, assembled from voice and noise recordings. It transforms the breath and voice of Australian soprano Jane Sheldon into winds, storms, whispers, and song, interwoven with subtle traces of electromagnetic noise recorded by Vesa Loikas. The collective has worked together on various projects since 2020.
Tuija Ihanta: Beacons
Exhibition consisting of oil and acrylic paintings has been inspired by the foregone sailors, their bravery at the face of physical labor, their nomadic way of life and above all else the call of the sea. The work also dwells into the yearning of those left home. Home and family have been important anchors to the men riding the winds of the sea – a rainbow in the horizon after a storm.
The exhibition displays atmospheric pictures of archipelagic nature, depicting the power that makes plants turn toward light, rivers flow into seas and birds migrate time after time. It travels from watery shores to the shining lighthouses. In nature everything has it’s place, but people sometimes need beacons to navigate through life.
The theme of the exhibition depicts people, things and dreams that take you forward in life like a lighthouse - supporting and guiding. The works move through several times, the waves of the past meeting the shore of the present.
