During the months of November and December Thomas Cummins has been working on night photography in Old Rauma. The night, with its diverse lights, inherently discloses more about society than sunlight which blankets the world indiscriminately. Lightbulbs gave us some mastery over night but they also inadvertently display what we focus in on as a community.
Being from the Texas, Cummins also hopes to capture some snow during the winter residency as well. The whiteness of snow helps to reflect light needed for night photography. Architecture, however, will be the main subject of the photographs in Rauma. Society has always been seen in its buildings and constructions and he plans to explore how we begin to define ourselves throughout these surrounding social structures.
Thomas Cummins is a photographer and artist based out of his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, USA. Cummins received his BA and BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin and his MFA from Maine College of Art.
